Emily,
rather than suggesting specific models, I think if you'd answer a few questions, you'll get a much more accurate answer.

1. What is your budget?
2. How important is small size and portability?
3. What kind of pictures do you imagine taking? people? landscapes? low light? action? these make a big difference in your choice.
4. How willing are you to trade off ultimate picture quality for size, budget, etc?

You should think about redoing your question with these answers, I guarantee, you'll get better answers

Good luck

The still cameras which record video usually sacrifice video quality. The video cameras which also shoot still images usually sacrifice still image quality. Youre asking for something which doesnt exist.

If you want a combo camera you have to decide if still images or video is more important. The only way to get the best of both is to have 2 separate cameras. One still camera and one video camera.

I got the Canon G10 for Christmas and I really like it. It takes great pics and pretty good videos.

I would suggest Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD. Good zoom, good picture quality and good video.
