Is the Canon powershot A480 a good camera?

Not necessarily on an SLR level,but on the point-and-shoot scale,as a pull-out-of-the-pocket
kind of camera. For example,i'm going to use it on a ski trip this month,as well as for summer camp. Would you recommend it? Thanks in advance!

The A480 is an entry-level, budget priced compact camera from Canon. However, even though it's a budget model, it's still capable of taking VERY good quality shots, especially outdoors in normal bright light.

It's main weak points are...
no IS (image stabilization)
slow flash recycle times
poor ISO capability (just like most other compacts)
low res. LCD

But, if all you want to spend is US$100...the A480 is probably one of the best choices.

p.s. Canon have just announced two successors to the A480 (the A490 at US$109 and the A495 at US$129). They will be released in the very near future...

I have heard good things about the 480. I like that it uses AA batteries and SD memory cards, both very standard and available items. I also like that it can be bought from somewhere around $89 t0 $99.

Below are 2 links to check some deals but also at amazon there are over 92 customer reviews that you can read over and see if this camera is good for you.

Hope this helps.
