Very much personal preference, you'll find competent models from Canon, Fuji and Samsung in the same price range.

One thing to decide, power system:
Li-Ion - generally means a slimmer, lighter camera, but if you need more than one battery of running time, then you are held to ransom unless a cheaper "clone" is available, and you also need an off-camera charger or multiple batteries are a pain.

AA batteries - these set a certain minimum thickness for the camera, but having sets of NiMH and a charger can give you as much running time as you want - use the precharged / low self discharge style of NiMH (eneloop or equivalent) if you want decent power from sets that have stood for some time without freshening the charge.
